The staff at Alwin Holland wishes everyone a safe, refreshing and relaxing summer. For many, the usual travel plans are on hold. We wish you a wonderful staycation. If you do travel, we wish you safe journeys.
Normally, our first day of school for students in Grades 1 to 6 would be on Tuesday, September 8th. Kindergarten students have a gradual entry schedule that begins with a part day on the 9th. Due to COVD-19, we are not sure what September is going to look like, but we will do our best to keep our school community informed.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page (Alwin Holland Elementary), this website, or the district website (www.prn.bc.ca) for updates.
Tonight we are hosting our Welcome to Kindergarten event for children entering kindergarten at Alwin Holland in September 2020. This newsletter is the same one you will be receiving in your bags but has easy to access links on it!
If you did not receive a call from the school with your time to attend this evening or you have not registered your kindergarten child yet, please call the office for more details.
As you are probably aware, parents will have the choice to send their children back to school again starting on June 2nd. Students will be able to attend two days per week, with classes at or below 50% capacity.
In the next couple of days you will be receiving some sort of communication (email, phone call, etc.) from your child’s teacher. The teacher will be asking you if you are planning on sending your child/children back to school starting June 2nd and if your child will be riding the bus . In order for us to finalize schedules, we need to know this information in a timely manner. Please ensure you have had contact with your student’s teacher by noon on Monday, May 25th, 2020. Please don’t hesitate to contact your teacher if you haven’t heard from them. Any information gathered after May 25th may result in a delay attending in-class sessions.
Another contact will be made next week indicating what days your child will be attending and the protocols that need to be followed when coming to school. Because of our large population, we cannot accommodate requests for specific days. Siblings will attend on the same days. Please do not hesitate to contact your teacher or the school if you have any questions.
Thank you for your understanding and patience with us as we navigate this fast paced transition. Our teachers and support staff are working very hard to create the most welcoming and safe environment for all.
If you know of any families with children aged 3-4 years of age, please forward them this information. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate an in-school session this year, but have created a fun resource page filled with lots of information to get your young ones ready for pre-school!
